Shifting Mindsets Can Open Unexpected Doors

January 8 would have been my mom’s 90th birthday. She shares it with Elvis Presley, another legend who left this earth too soon. Both remind me of life’s fragility. As much as we can plan, we never truly know what tomorrow holds. And yet, there’s something beautiful in recognizing that life doesn’t have to be perfect to be abundant.
This year, I decided to take part in author and podcaster, Cathy Heller’s 21-Day Abundance Challenge, and it’s been inspiring for me to participate in a daily exercise with her guided prompts. Every day, I reflect on the abundance that already exists in my life, and in the process, I’m reminded of the countless blessings that have carried me through difficult times. Losing my mom when I was young could have left me feeling empty, but I was always surrounded by love. Even in moments of uncertainty—like losing a job—I was provided with what I needed to take the next step. Through it all, I've come to realize I've always been abundant.
The challenge began with an expected question: What does abundance mean to you? To me, abundance isn’t about material wealth—it’s the love that surrounds me, the opportunities that flow when I’m in the right mindset, and the ability to give back, as I do through the Red Cross. It’s about trusting that what I need is already on its way, even if it doesn’t always come in the form I expect.
In the context of the challenge, abundance goes beyond simply having more—it’s about recognizing the good that is already present in your life and being open to receiving more. Abundance is not a finite resource. It’s a mindset that flows from within, where the more you recognize what you have, the more you’re able to receive. It’s about being in alignment with the flow of life, rather than fighting against it.
But abundance is more than just a feeling—it’s a mindset that requires effort. I often must remind myself to shift from the negative thoughts that can hold me back. Whether it’s a grudge or imposter syndrome, I’ve learned to recognize when I’m tuning into the wrong frequency. Instead, I focus on my mantra for 2025: Focused, Fearless, Flourishing. This simple phrase helps me reframe my thoughts and keep my vibration high. When I embrace this mindset, possibilities are infinite.
As I reflect on the gifts that have already manifested in my life, I realize that abundance is not just something to receive—it’s something to create. It’s not about waiting for a miracle to happen; it’s about being open to the support that’s already here and taking inspired action.
So, in honor of my mom today, I encourage you to embrace the abundance that’s all around you. It’s already within reach. It’s not just about getting what you want; it’s about recognizing what you already have and welcoming even more into your life. Whether it’s through gratitude, trust, or simply being present, remember that abundance is already on its way to you. You just have to be open to it.
